- FACT- Flip flop girls had their fashion show, Holiday baskets, Make It-Take It Night was a huge success – excellent feedback from parents, New sports programs for students, Smoke Busters presented a program, Chrysta discussed donations – there are over 100 families needing help, Christmas family gifts need to be turned in by Monday.
6. Tutoring Update:
- Started RADICAL READING & WRITING CLUB for third graders. They meet every Wednesday & Thursday after school until 5:00.
- We now have math tutors for 3rd and 4th grade! Celene Malik will be working with 4th graders M-F from 10:00-12:30. Amy Seaburn will be working with 3rd graders M-F from 12:30-2:00. They will be tutoring January 4th-April 1st.
7. Discipline/PBS/Common Rules…
- Started FIGHT FREE FLAG weekly award for classes.
- Next Year: Common rules/consequences/procedures across the building.

- Literacy – Common assessments anchor papers will be on the web soon. Literacy team is coming up with common writing rubrics for each grade. Grade cards need to be updated.
- Climate – Tiger Pride Assembly – limit special class awards, more chairs for the teachers, recommended doing Veteran’s day assembly in the afternoon, Shriners could do motorcycles. Discussed secret Santa & social committee dues. Faculty Christmas tea on Monday, December 14th. Fight free party for 2nd qtr – January 8th
- Math – Training for common assessment, supply lists
- Technology – GLE notebook resource has been added on Willard South’s website under teacher resources, purchased ink cartridges for the computer lab
- FACT – Flip flop girls fashion show is Tuesday, Nov. 17th at 6pm – need help decorating after school. Holiday basket applications due Nov. 13th (already have 20) Would other cadres like to adopt a family? New sports program for elementary students coming soon. Smoke busters – 4th grade program on November 24th at 9:30 in the library. – Frisco lighting 7am – 11am on November 21st – Breakfast with Santa – $5, craft show from 9am – 4pm at the middle school, parade of lights later in the day. Make it, take it night – Thursday, Dec. 3rd from 6pm – 7pm. Help is needed for decoration at 5pm. Asking families to bring 1 can of frosting.
6. Vision Update
- Kara will make new signs for every teacher to place in their classroom. (coming soon)
7. Tutoring Update:
- Implementing Radical Reading and Writing Club for 3rd grade students on Reading Improvement Plans & at-risk students. (Wednesday & Thursday 3:45-5:00)
- Encouraging 4th grade students on Reading Improvement Plans to join After School Actors. (Tuesdays 3:45-5:00)
- Still working on getting a math tutor for math in 3rd and 4th grade. We need a tutor M-F in 4th grade from 10:00-12:30 and M-F in 3rd grade from 12:30-2:00. I called two student teachers regarding the tutoring & they will get back with me. (Celene Malik & Amy Seaburn) I am running out of ideas!
- Still need some tutors for RIP kids. (see chart below) Reminder that the pay is $18 per hour and tutoring hours should be recorded on the log located on the SDrive. Logs need to be turned in at the end of every month to be recorded on SISK12 and turned in to Central Office for payment.

- FACT Cadre – White Tiger Sale – September 19th 7am – 2pm, need volunteers, 32 spaces sold
- Literacy Cadre – Reviewed scoring rubrics for writing samples, evaluated writing samples, teachers will go back and assist other grade level members in assessing their writing samples. Writing samples due October 1st to Stephanie.
- Math/Science Cadre – Each grade level should use own parent volunteers to make games, sort supplies, etc. Scope and Sequence and pacing guides will be discussed after CAP (common assessment plan) meeting. Each grade level needs to make a list of supplies needed to successfully implement the program.

Willard South Elementary, an Accelerated School, exists to provide a partnership between students, families, staff, administration and community in which:

- Climate Cadre-Members assembled MAP cans for students and delivered them to third and fourth grade classrooms.
- Reading Cadre-Old Business: The Tropical Literacy Bags were passed out at the school-wide Parent Appreciation Night that was held on March 19.New Business: The Title 1A Parent Literacy Event will be held on April 8. Several Communication Arts Cadre members will be helping with this event. Title 1A literacy students and their parents will learn about the benefits of summer reading. The event will feature books and snacks for the Title 1A students. The current SRI will be active through December of 2009. The upgrade will be web-based. MRI for next year will focus on reading and writing. Writing professional resource books will be ordered for the 2009-2010 academic year through the textbook committee.
- FACT Cadre-1. Chrysta shared the “10 Years Working Together” plaque from the PPP conference she presented at. She presented at the conference about community resources. Approximately $9,000 in donations (food and money) have been received for the food pantry. Cash buys food cards for Murfins that are given to families. 2. The Town Hall meeting is at the high school April 9 at 7pm. The discussion is about alcohol and drugs being used by even younger children than previous. Current alcohol advertising is geared toward kids. 3. New officers will be elected at our next meeting: May 4 in Linda Shortt’s room.
- Math/Science Cadre-We will be visiting Mathews Elementary in Nixa to see Investigations in action within a classroom. We made a list of questions that we will ask each of the teachers/presenters that we visit. Our visit will be near the end of the month.
- Technology Cadre-Ann saw a Kodak 12x Easy Share camera on the Sam’s web site for $118. Cartridge World has not yet picked up the cartridges. PTO Letter – Finished and send – We would like each grade level to have their own digital camera to use with rechargeable batteries. We are requesting one recharging unit to share (it recharges very quickly). The total cost is $710-$740 depending on the camera prices when we are able to purchase them.
OTHER BUSINESS ITEMS
- Accelerated School Awareness Week (April 20-24)-Kara will give a schedule to teachers and students next week. Below is a tentative list of ideas for the week. Monday 4/20-STRENGTH–Ronald McDonald Assembly (K-2nd 1:45-2:15 & 3rd-4th 2:30-3:00)
Tuesday 4/21-UNITY/TEAMWORK–Wear your favorite team attire and sign up to work around the school. (ex. clean up the courtyard, help spread mulch in flower beds, pick up trash on school property, clean classroom…) Kara will put a sign up sheet in the workroom for “TEAMWORK TUESDAY” ideas for the school.
Wednesday 4/22-EMPOWERMENT/EARTH DAY–Mother Earth (aka Mrs. Crighton-Smith) will visit classrooms to discuss GOING GREEN ideas for our school and EMPOWERMENT
Thursday 4/23-VISION–Hat & Sunglasses Day to show your VISION for the school. Kara will also give teachers a poster/paper to have students write their vision ideas for WS.
Friday 4/24-GO GREEN from head to toe! Wear your school shirt and any other green clothing you might have.

- Climate Cadre-1. Tiger Pride Assembly-Feed back: Positive feed back from all grade levels. 2. Fight Free Party- Kara will be in charge of the Fight Free Party to be held this Friday, Feb. 6th in the cafeteria. She will be getting a schedule activities to the staff. The plan is for everyone to have their specials and their recess times.- This party will combine the semester Fight Free Party and the 100th Day Fight Free Party. 3. Fat Tuesday celebration- Treats will be provided by the Climate Cadre on Feb. 24th- Kara will be providing the workroom decorations and beads for faculty and staff- Yvonne will be providing the King’s cake with the baby 4. Set agenda for next meeting- MAP Preparation- The next Tiger Pride Assembly
- Reading Cadre-The Guided Reading Programs Assessment Guide has been replaced. The blackline masters are now in a large three ring binder by the assessment books. Copies of each blackline master will be placed in the lettered assessment boxes. Plans for the Family Literacy Packets and food for the March School-Wide Parent Appreciation Night were made. The Family Literacy packets will focus on writing stories.
- FACT Cadre-Chrysta will be presenting PPP info at Tan-Tar-A in April, homeless presentation on March 2nd at Willard South, and two workshops in March regarding families/couples. Parent Appreciation Night being scheduled for March 19th from 6:00-7:00. Reading Recovery teachers have offered to help with the Cake Walk! Yeah! We further discussed refreshments, decorations, scenery for pictures, and the reading teachers passing out reading packets during this activity. There will be a sign-up sheet in the workroom soon so please sign-up!
- Math/Science Cadre-1. We have contacted the Mad Science staff about their business having a science night this spring. We are waiting for their response. 2. During our science night, we will have a table set up with MAP information for parents.

- Weeding—Kara shared her thoughts on “weeding” here at WS. Dr. Medlin has been discussing the need to weed at all levels. Kara will be placing a chart in the workroom soon for all staff members to write down their thoughts/concerns/suggestions on items to keep FEEDING or items to WEED here at Willard South.

- We set the date for Accelerated Schools Awareness Week for January 19-23, 2009. We also discussed the need to revisit the Accelerated Schools process. Our goal will be to re-establish the process for the entire staff for the 2009-2010 school year.
- Milk crates have been placed in all classrooms in order to recycle paper. The Technology Cadre is still finalizing the large recycling bins for WS. Kara will check with maintenance about setting classroom thermostats to the correct am/pm temperatures.
- Student Council will be holding a WS presidential election on November 4th.

Going GREEN ideas for the school year
Recycling boxes will be place in each classroom. Kara will be doing this within the next week. The evening custodians will be notified so they can take the paper to the recycling bin as needed.
Suggested that each teacher check his/her thermostat each morning/evening in order to conserve energy. Kara will check on appropriate temperatures.

Tech Cadre is checking on other recycling bins for the building and the community to use. These would be located by our current trash & cardboard bins behind our new gymnasium.
